The Cypriot and EU citizens with severe disabilities, who have been living in the area controlled by the Republic of Cyprus for at least 12 consecutive months, are entitled to rent technical means, disability instruments as well as other aids returned by the beneficiaries of the allowance for purchasing disability instruments.

The technical means, disability devices and other aids are rented free of charge through this scheme.

How to Rent Disability Devices?

Those interested in renting disability instruments must apply at the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. The technical instruments lent through this scheme are second hand.

The applications are examined by a special committee presided by the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities or by an authorised officer and may include representatives of other government services. If necessary, representatives of the Cyprus Confederation of Organisations of the Disabled (CCOD) may attend during the examination process. The applicant may also be requested by the committee to be present personally. Applications are approved by the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.

Priority is given upon the severity of the disability and urgent needs of the applicant.

Beneficiaries’ Responsibilities and Duties

The technical tools, disability devices and aids lent through this allowance are provided on individual basis and belong to the beneficiaries. Institutions, organisations, schools or other persons are not entitled to assume them. In case these instruments or means are no longer used or in case the beneficiary passes away, they should be returned to the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.

The beneficiaries are exclusively responsible for the maintenance of the tools and disability devices rented through this scheme.
