Pensioners whose total pension income from the General Social Insurance Scheme and any other pension schemes in Cyprus does not exceed €11,106 per year (€854.30 a month, for 13 months) can apply for a special allowance of up to €1,538 per year (€128.15 per month). This amount is adjusted in January and July each year according to changes in wages and prices.

The special allowance for pensioners is a non contributory pension schemes. Each pensioner is treated as a single person household and therefore the special allowance is paid without any test of income from work or other sources and without taking into account the total pension income of the household.

The persons interested to apply for special allowance for pensioners should address to their local Social Insurance Services Office within three months from the date of entitlement. The documents required for their application are the same as for the old age pension.
